The Summer Surge

Summer is no break for families in poverty. When schools close, so does free “childcare” for young children. Utility bills spike and hotels, the last resort for homeless families, are at peak rates. Hundreds of families will slip into homelessness in Hampton Roads.

Haven House Shelter

During summer months, our shelter typically runs to overflow conditions every night, with the last eight available spaces being the kitchen floor.
